
Position Overview
The Install Crew Member is responsible for the physical installation of steel structures and components on job sites across Kansas and surrounding areas. This is a hands-on, outdoor position requiring physical stamina, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. Crew members work under the direction of the Install Foreman to complete projects safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality.

Core Responsibilities
Execution & Installation
Install structural steel components per engineered prints and foreman direction
Assist with layout, positioning, alignment, and securing of materials
Bolt, weld, and assemble steel structures as required
Use hand and power tools safely and effectively
Follow instructions to ensure work is completed correctly the first time
Quality & Craftsmanship
Verify bolts are properly torqued, materials are aligned, and installations are level and square
Identify and promptly communicate errors, damage, or inconsistencies to the foreman
Take ownership of clean, finished work — no shortcuts
Assist with final touch-ups and job site cleanup
Teamwork & Communication
Follow foreman direction and maintain focus throughout the workday
Communicate clearly regarding progress, issues, or material needs
Collaborate with crew members to meet daily and project goals
Represent Bender Steel professionally on every job site
Safety & Site Responsibility
Comply with all OSHA safety standards and company safety protocols at all times
Properly wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and fall protection harness when required
Must be comfortable working at heights and on rooftops
Must be able to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain)
Actively maintain an organized, hazard-free job site
Equipment & Tools
Operate equipment as trained, including aerial lifts and skid steers (certifications provided or required)
Proficiently read and use a tape measure and other layout tools
Assist with loading, unloading, and staging materials
Properly maintain and care for all tools and equipment
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly; heavier loads with assistance
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in awkward positions for extended periods
Comfortable working at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops
Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons
Compensation
Pay starting at $18/hr, potential for higher with relevent experience.
